Guru Mantra (Mantra given by Sath Guru during Mantra Diksha) is a connection between SathGuru and Shishya (Disciple) and should not be revelead to anyone ever. Here are some useful powerful mantras that help Sadhaks in various way.

||ॐ गं गणपतये नमः ||
|| ॐ श्री सरस्वत्यै नमः ||
|| ॐ श्री गुरुभ्यो नमः ||
The Magnificence of Mantras

Even in this present age of materialistic life Mantra-Shakti can prove to be more powerful than the Yantra-Shakti. Mantra is a divine instrument with the rare potential of arousing our dormant consciousness. Thus it helps develop our latent powers and brings our original greatness to the fore. The parents give birth merely to our physical body whereas the True Brahmanishtha Sadgurus, the personages established in their True Self, give birth to our Chinmay Vapoo(divine body) through Mantra-Diksha. Man can attain greatness by developing his dormant powers through Mantra. The regular japa of a mantra reduces restlessness of the mind, brings restraint in life; and works wonders in developing the concentration and memory. A Mantra has different effects on different energy centres of the body. Many personages like Mahavir, Buddha, Kabir, Guru Nanak, Swami Vivekanand, Ramkrishna Paramhansa, Swami Ramtirtha, Pujyapaad Swami Sri Lilashahji Maharaj, etc. have attained respect and reverence all around the world through their awareness of the True glory of Mantra.

Vannakkam: No traditional Hindu guru will give out mantras just like that, although unfortunately, some untraditional ones will, if you pay them money. But I would sincerely doubt the power of such mantra initiation.

So you have to work for years at improving yourself in so many other ways, like your character, your commitment, your sincerity, before traditional gurus will grant a mantra.

I should mention also that experience and observation and history has shown time and time again the difficulty of converting from Islam to Hinduism. I would strongly suggest you take a very close look at this idea, if you haven't already. Although close in geography, we are light years apart in philosophy.

Do you live anywhere where you could start practicing Hinduism?

Attaining a mantra is one thing, using it properly is quite another matter. It is no different then a tool. One does not use a shovel to pound nails. Its proper use is just as important as the selection.

Salam Aleikum Akram

I am born as a roman catholic christian, but gave it up as soon as I was an adult, because I was very interested in buddhism and the vedic scriptures. During my long time travel thru many asian countries I got a lots of friends from diferent religions (also Islam) and cultures and I loved all of them. I saw you registered yourself here as a muslim. And in Malaysia what is a multi ethnic country, but with the state religion of Islam I found in a hindu temple a priest who told me this:

He said you may give up or ignore every mantra if you want, but not the
"GAYATRI MANTRA" (Your treasure): You should recite the Gayathri at least a few times a day (3 times, 9 times or any multiples of 3 or 9), and it looks like this:

OM
BHUR BHUVA SVAHA
TAT SAVITHUR VARENYAM
BHARGO DEVASYA DHEEMAHI
DHI YO YONAH PRACHODAYAT

The meaning:

OM BHUR BHUVA SVAHA
The earth, the sky, the heavens: also refers to the dimensions of body, mind and intellect

TAT SAVITHUR VARENYAM
The glorious one we all adore

BHARGO DEVASYA DHEEMAHI
We contemplate on the Divine glory

DHI YO YONAH PRACHODAYAT
Please enlighten our intellect.

I hope I can help you a little bit.

Dear Akram,

The best Mantra for meditation irrespective of caste , creed , religion is the gayatri mantra. Its the mantra that takes us from ignorance to darkness and towards the build up of righteous intellect.

You can chant this mantra and meditate upon the rising sun, as the rising sun is a symbol of dispelling darkness and represents illumination. The meditation has 3 components- imagining the rising suns rays enetering and falling on the NAVEL( for a body full of vitality and vigour), secondly the rays falling upon and entering the HEART( so we have a heart which is vast and can accomodate love for a lot of people) and thirdly imagine the Sun's rays falling in the middle of the spot between the eyebrows( the pineal gland) responsible for the generation of discriminating intellect and wisdom.

I have a post on our blog that explains this in detail.
http://guidingthoughts.blogspot.com/2012/10/dhyaan-yoga-meditation-upon-light-its.html

At the end of the blog are 3 videos that take you thru the above explained guided meditation with the rising suns rays. Do it for 3 months and see the results for yourself. Your body starts to feel light and your forehead starts to glow.You also begin to develop intuitive faculties.

We have many articles on meditation on our blog and our facebook page. There is no better mantra than the Gayatri Mantra and no better Guru than Shriram Sharma Acharya.

Hi Again.

If you would like to read a great book on Meditation ( free online)...its in the form of Question and answers and very engagingly written, click on the link :

http://www.scribd.com/doc/9139606/Spiritual-Teachings-of-Swami-Brahmananda

Swami Brahmananda, is a direct disciple of Ramkrishna Paramhansa. The writings and teachings are based on Vedic texts, which are basically scientific treatises and above individual religious beliefs.
