The 605th Annamacharya jayanti will be celebrated from May 24 to 26 during year 2013 at the 108-feet statue of the saint-lyricist at Tallapaka in Rajampet mandal, kadapa district in Andhra Pradesh, India.
Many Indian associations from US,UK, and other parts of the world are also celebrating Annamacharya jayanti (birthday) during the same period.

Tallapaka Annamacharya (1408-1503)
Annamacharya was born in 1408 in the village of Tallapaka,in kadapa district, in Andhra Pradesh. He is widely regarded as pada kavita pitamaha ( grand old man of song writing). As the legend goes, Annamayya, at the age of 16, had a vision of Lord Venkateswara which prompted him to write about 32,000 kirtanas and padams in praise of Lord Venkateswara and his consort Alamelu Manga. Only about 12,000 are available today. Sri Annamacharya is remembered for his saintly life, and is honoured as a great Bhakta/devotee of Bhagwaan Govinda by devotees and saintly singers. He composed devotional padams, keertanas, folk songs, etc. in pure Telugu and Sanskrit. According to Vaishvites he is believed to have been the reincarnation of the precious sword of lord Vishnu ( Nandakam ).
In his later keertanas, he espouses subjects such as morality, dharma, and righteousness.
His choice of words gives a mellifluous tone to his songs, charming the listener. His prodigious literary career earned him a place among the all-time greats of telugu literature.
The vast creative kirtanas of Annamacharya, inculcate Madhura Bhakti and Saranagati to Lord Venkateswara.
Annamacharya keertanas are rendered daily during the Unjal Seva of Srivaru in the Tirumala temple, and in other local TTD-managed temples.
After the Saivite Naayanars of 3rd Century and Vaishnavite Alwars between 7th and 12th Century, we have Annamacharya, the earliest composer of lyrics in Telugu in the 15th Century. Annamacharya was greatly influenced by Alwars.
The medium favoured by all these saint poets to worship their favourite deity was a song or ‘samkeertana’, as it is the most effective medium to reach God in Kaliyuga. It also appeals to the imagination and interest of the common man, amongst whom these saint poets wished to propagate their path of Bhakti or devotion.
What is the relevance of Annamacharya kirtanas in the present day highly advanced technological world?
In the present day world we are subjected to various types of stresses which disturb our mind as well as body. One way of relieving this stress, scientists and doctors say is sing, play or listen to good music. The greatness of all these kirtanas is the power of bhakti in every word of the song.Eventhough they were written more than six hundred years ago, when you sing or hear them you feel elevated and feel fresh and enriched with positive energy.
During these six hundred years, life has changed so much on this planet earth. When these kirtanas are written, there was no gramophone, no record player, no electricity and no internet/youtube to record these kirtanas. Probably few lucky people could listen to them when somebody sang. Now with so many technical innovations, we are still listening to the same kirtana without any change in its composition. That is the power of dedication to God and creativity of the composer. We may change our iPad or iphone every year but we can not change these great kirtanas of Annamacharya. We continue to hear the same kirtanas through new gadgets yet to be designed and marketed. In whatever good work we do in life, we should have dedication and devotion to God and should have good thoughts in mind. Such a creative work can never be replaced by changes in culture or technology or environment on this planet earth.
