The decent of Muruga as the Shanmuga was in answer to a prayer by the Devas to rid the world of adharma caused by the three asura brothers, Soorapadman, Singamuhan and Tārakan.

A local Shiva Murugsn Temple will have VaikasI Visakam and Purnima today, then tomorrow Vaikasi Visakam Celebration in morning, followed by cultural event.

I made sweet pongal today to celebrate the auspicious occassion of it being both Nrusimha Jayanthi and Vaikasi Visakam. Since I include Lord Muruga in my routine naivedyam, I have celebrated Vaikasi Visakam also today! :)
