Namaste HDF,

In Baala Kaandam, Valmiki says (Sarga 17 )

मारुतस्य औरसः श्रीमान् हनुमान् नाम वानरः |
वज्र संहननोपेतो वैनतेय समः जवे ||
सर्व वानर मुख्येषु बुद्धिमान् बलवान् अपि |

What I understood from this Sloka is, Shree Hanuman ji is the direct son of Shree Vaayu Bhagwan. This has happened as per the instruction of Brahma. I do not see any reference of Anjana or Kesari here. Or I am missing some thing.

Where can I find more information on the birth of Shree Hanuman ji.

Thanks in advance

This site (http://www.essortment.com/hanuman-monkey-god-42556.html) has a good narrative on Hanuman ji's birth circumstances, including how his mother 'Punjikasthala' became a monkey from an angel and finally begot Shri Hanuman.

Thank you Viraja,

If Shree Hanuman ji is a Shiva Amsa then why Sri Vaishnavites pray to him.

Namaste Anirudh ji,

Owing to my unorthodox/near-Athiest upbringing, I shouldn't call myself a 'SriVaishnava', I am just a Vaishnava by practice since I worship Vishnu.

Shri Hanuman ji might have been Shiva, but he worshiped Shri Ram who was Vishnu, hence Hanuman ji is a 'Vaishnava'.

(Fyi: I just recently learned that even Shri Ram is an amsa of Shiva. I read this info at the 'Mahapashupatastra blog' posted at the 'Dharma related websites' section of this forum. :) ).

Namaste Viraja,

I understand your statement as I had been an atheist in the past.

Sri Raamaanujacharya must have had some sparks to refute the well accepted philosophy of his days. He not only refuted but his wisdom made his teacher to interchange roles.

My lifetime quest is to understand Sri Sampradaya in its totality and develop unflinching faith on Sreeman Naaraayan like the character Rangarajan Nambi (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lm2trIUi0M) of famous Tamil movie Dasaavatharam.

So every time I get new information related to Shreeman Naaraayan, analyse them to understand it completely. This gives me a spiritual enlightenment.

I politely disagree with the Shiva Vishnu equality claims. I think such claims are baseless and self serving. They have done more damage to Sanaatana Dharma than the intended unity.
