Definitions starting with the letter: B

Brahmanas- The Veda's consist of 4 sections the Samhita (the collection of mantra's), Brahmana, Aranyaka (forest books) , and Upanishads (knowledge of the Veda and vidyas) . The significance behind the Vedic rituals of the Samhitas are explained in the Brahmanas.They include some detail as to the performance of rituals themselves, the Brahmanas are primarily concerned with the meaning of rituals. Each Brahmana is associated with one of the four Vedas, and within the tradition of that Veda with a particular shakha or school.
