Hatha

The compound word Hatha translate as Ha (sun) and Tha (moon). It closely follows Patanjali's Raja yoga principles, with both types of yoga being referred to as Ashtanga yoga (eight limbs).

Discussion:

Hatha Yoga focuses on physical purification (shatkarma) as a preparatory stage for medition. The oldest written account of Hatha Yoga was penned by Yogi Swatmarama in the 15th century, in his work entitled Hatha Yoga Pradipika.. Using postures, breathing and meditation, Hatha Yoga attempts to balance the mind and body and prepare for meditation and ultimately enlightenment.
