View Full Version : Length of a thread

Namaste,

It seems that when we have six or less responses to a OP's question, there is peace in the forum. When we start going higher than that, the thread starts to wobble. At a dozen responses, it explodes. At 15 to 20, somebody or the other gets banned and the thread gets locked down. :)

Moral of the observation: Don't make a post unless it really adds value to the discussion, so as to keep the total number of responses to less than the magic number of six. Yeah sure, like anyone is going to listen!

Pranam.

Namaste,

Good point. May I add, just for fun, that the length of the thread seems to depend on factors such as -- in order of weighting:

1) OP's topic and its Scope for Debate
2) Members replying to the thread
3) Length of thread

The first would hold the most weight, which would lead to members repeatedly replying to the thread, which could eventually cause the thread to be derailed when it is beyond a certain amount of pages due to lack of focus.

I don't know why I even wrote that. Too much economics and regression analysis in my brain. Blaaaah.
Haha, have a good day.

My friend, you must have made this post before your morning cup of coffee. :)

Pranam.

PS, We already have three posts on this thread. Can accept only 3 more.

Namaste Believer ji

I have made few suggestion(s) to Satay ji around six months ago that OP has the moral responsibility to monitor and request moderator (s) to take necessary actions. I don't have the copy of that PM. Sadly that calls for an extra effort from already over burdened moderator(s).

Upon reflecting I THINK it is better to ban when repeated mistakes are committed by the same member. Active HDF community can help of the member is a newbie.

I am taking this stance because a) historically after a ban members have behaved b) when someone's ego is hurt they have exhibited themselves at the very next available opportunity. :-(

I believe 6 post is very harsh restriction on the freedom of expression and also on the wisdom.

Namaste,

This is just lighthearted banter. Things will continue as before. For too much monitoring, you have to have impartial, dedicated people doing the job 24/7. I don't think we are so bad that somebody has to babysit us all the time. Most of what is posted falls in the category of 'I think' which is meaningless stuff anyway because everyone can come up with 'I think' blah blah blah. :)

Let things roll in the free format just the way they always have.

Pranam.

Hope you wont take offence. If we take the word "THINK" either very seriously or lightly sentence formation become a difficult task.

Nevertheless, I appreciate your efforts to make us laugh on our own shortcoming :-)
