I live in Nashville, TN. There is a beautiful temple in town with a vibrant Hindu community. I would like to visit and try to somehow become involved in the community there. As a white westerner following Sanatana Dharma on a solitary basis I am unsure of myself in a temple or with Indian Hindus. My Hindu friend is very devout but dislikes temple worship, preferring solitary practice. He is the only Hindu I know. I want to connect with other Hindus and learn more than what I can read in books. Any advice or suggestions on visiting the temple or attempting to become involved in the local Hindu community?

Thank you. :)

Vannakkam: There are several threads dedicated to this. Here's one: http://hindudharmaforums.com/showthread.php?t=13294&highlight=temple+visit

The biggest obstacle for most, from my observation, is just going. There will be no harm done, and really you can do no wrong if you watch what other people do.

Yes, I've heard that is a beautiful temple.
