Dear Members

Generally some argue we should worship one GOD only and She/HE will take care of our wellbeing.

in astrology, procedures has been laid out to workship each GOD for various dosha.Such as surya for disease, mahalakshmi for shukra dosha, skanda for mars dosha.

Why there is need to workship each GOD based on dosha type as all GODS came from same Brahmam and they have all the power.

Namaste,

Other than Vedantis no Hindu to my knowledge believes that devata-s are mere aspects of Brahman.

Of late many Hindus have met their Vedanta co-religionists on intellectual level also and have tried to show that a more nuanced view of Hinduism taking into account its diversity and not wishing it away is not only the way ahead for truer understanding of Hinduism but also is something best suited for next stage set in the progress of humanity.

In this more "polytheist" view, Vedanta is not dismissed at all - because it does have its roots in Upanishads - but is seen as another sect of Hinduism that has Brahman as its focus.

In any case, when we are not directly dealing with Vedantic thoughts, such as in doing Jyotisha, it is advisable to absorb the teachings as it is without filtering through any other philosophy.

After all, the word "Bhakti" itself means "division". And not "aspect", or "unity" or "the One", etc. And other point: discussions will go on and on but Bhakti will always be fixed there like Dhruva. No one is ever going to replace Bhakti ("division").

Dear Sir

Thanks for reply. So in material Plane, each deity has certain limitations and he can solve anything that lies within his discretion.

Pretty puzzled as many rishis like Parasara has recommended this kind of remedies even though they are self realized (from advaita POV ).

So in material Plane, each deity has certain limitations and he can solve anything that lies within his discretion.
However, all Devata-s, except one, belong to the non-material planes. Even then, all Devata-s are available at the material plane also, though in form of a very real projection.

The so called "graha-s" are nothing but the projections of these Gods. For example, Surya the Sun is the material projection of Surya the God.

Pretty puzzled as many rishis like Parasara has recommended this kind of remedies even though they are self realized (from advaita POV ).
All these Devata-s are all-pervasive, and aren't limited by anything. It is like accusing KrishNa to be powerless because His idol isn't able to move or play real flute!

Different Graha-s, more than the material murthy of the Devata-s, belong to their material kAla (time) aspect. Each graha in this view is like a separate clock ticking in tandem with revolutions and oscillations of bodies in space. Gravity is therefore the driver or equivalence of this time.

Each "clock" the tick-tock is in fact a unique frequency; Jyotisha then becomes almost like time-domain being translated on the frequency domain: like fate understood in terms of the influence of the Devata-s. No doubt, Jyotisha can be very complex and we shouldn't make it even more by mingling with inappropriate philosophical filters into its study/ practice.

Brahman also finds its proper place in Jyotisha along with all the other Devata-s.
After all, Jyotisha cannot be just "Vedantic Jyotisha", or "Shaiva Jyotisha" or "Vaishnava Jyotisha" or "Shakta Jyotisha" and so on.

Shri Ram.
