What do we offer to Sri Rama on his birthday?

Panakam (Jaggery water) and Neer Mor (Watery buttermilk).

He had that during vanavAs and continued -- by the way these happen to be my two favourite things! Particularly on those hot ekadashis or just summer afternoons.

My Shri RAma has banana-halwa in sugar cardamom ghee upside-down cake on His Birthday ~*~

Rama is going to love being in your home so much he is not going to have time to visit others' homes, Smaranam ji! :)

First I too thought of making 'Mysore Pak' for Rama Navami -- but that (and any Indian sweet for that matter) takes way too much Ghee and Sugar. As all of us in my family are currently dieting, all prasadam will be left over with no one to eat them!

So I changed my mind and decided to make the customary Panakam, Neer mor, very limited quantity of Gulab jamoon and Chick pea Sundal for the Lord!

Even if the dishes are simple, I wish to pour out my heart's content in cleaning the puja and decking it up with flowers and flower garland, and then drawing kolam, and reciting stotras! :)

Namaste,

All the mandirs in our area are celebrating Ram Navami tomorrow and I intend to visit one. Birthdays are such festive occasions and celebration of the Lord's birthday should never be missed. Happy Ram Navami to all.

RAma NavamI ShubhechhA

I liked the NAma RAmAyaNa. Thank You.

A lovely bhajan which I assure is a treat for all RAma bhakta :
RAmA RaghUnandanA, AshramAta yA kadhi re yeshila
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4h5wiz-mSlE)MarAThi bhajan
singer: Asha Bhosle
movie: sukhAchi sAvli
Saint in the picture: Gondivlekar MaharAj of Gondivle, Maharashtra , India who taught RAma Bhakti and built 2 RAma temples in the same town. On RAma NavamI thousands of devotees flock to Maharaj's ashram, sing bhajans, aaratis, chant RAm-nAm/mantra on japa mAlA and meditate in the BamhAnanda Hall, attend RAm katha in the temple nearby and have prasAda in the ashram made in huge pots. Buttermilk is a staple in the wholesome lunch and one of the senior sevaka there showed the machines they use today to keep making gallons of buttermilk. With every 'pangat' - new set of devotees that honour prasad, the sevaka chant RAma Naam aloud.

Song Lyrics:
RAmA raghUnandanA, AshramAta yA kadhi re yeshila? || dhru o ||

Me na ahilyA shApita nAri
Me na jAnakI rAjakumArI
dIna rAnaTI veDI shabarI
tuzyA padAnche akhanDa chintana
hee mAzi sAdhanA ~ ~ ~ || 1 ||

patita pAvanA shri raghunAthA,
ekadAcha ye jAtA jAtA
pAhina, pUjina, Tekina mAthA
tocha svarga maja ithecha yeila
purepaNA jeevanA ~ ~ ~ || 2||

Meaning:
O RAmA, son of the Raghu kula, when will You come inside this Ashrama [of mine]?

I am not Ahilya, the cursed woman. I am not Princess Sita. Nor am I the humble simple wild forest-lady, Your crazy ShabarI.
Meditating non-stop (akhanDa) on Your Lotus Feet is my sAdhanA (spiritual practice).

O Mercy of the fallen, RaghunAthA, Come in just once, while on Your way [wherever you are heading => My Ashrama is on Your Way].
I shall see You, worship You, put my head on Your Lotus Feet.
That itself will be heaven which will come right here for me, and that will make my life complete.

Namaste all,

Lord Rama is also known as Maryada Purushottama, we can learn a lot from lord Rama life. Whereas Rama Navami (http://www.rudraksha-ratna.com/ram-navami.html) is the birthday celebration of shri Rama.
