Namaste,

A very happy Tulsidas Jayanti (Aug 22 this year) to all. A brief bio of Goswami Tulsidasji,

Tulsidas (1497-1623 C.E.) was a Hindu saint and a poet. He is renowned for his great devotion towards Lord Raam (http://www.drikpanchang.com/dashavatara/rama-navami/dashavatara-lord-rama.html). Tulsidas composed several works but he is best known as the author of the epic Ramcharitmanas, a retelling of the Sanskrit Ramayana in the vernacular Awadhi language.

Tulsidas was acclaimed to be a reincarnation of Maharishi Valmiki (http://www.drikpanchang.com/hindu-saints/valmiki/maharishi-valmiki-jayanti.html), the composer of the original Ramayana in Sanskrit. He is also considered to be the composer of Hanuman Chalisa (http://www.drikpanchang.com/lyrics/chalisa/lord-hanuman/shree-hanuman-chalisa-hindi.html), a popular devotional hymn in Awadhi dedicated to Lord Hanuman (http://www.drikpanchang.com/festivals/hanuman-jayanti/hanuman-jayanti-date-time.html).

Tulsidas spent most of his life in the city of Varanasi. The famous Tulsi Ghat on the Ganges River in Varanasi is named after him. The famous Sankat Mochan (reliever from life problems) Temple dedicated to God Hanuman is believed to have been founded by Tulsidas.
