Namaste,
I am certain I do not know God's desires as stated in the last posts initiated by Satay's inquiry.

Yet I 'feel' what would bring a smile to His/Her face:

That for Him, to make it possible for us to visualise the harmony and the interconnectedness through every finite form... that we live this level of appreciation and knowledge , would bring a smile to His face.

Since inter-human and intra-human smiles are becoming more and more rarer in Kali Yuga, I think God smiles even at the small good things we do when they are motivated by altruism. These small things include, for example:

-- sharing the scarce well water in summer with the plants on alternate days
-- helping a blind man or an old man/woman cross the road
-- praying for the welfare of another person
-- doing service to our parents and other elders
-- chanting his name with sincerity in bhajans and mantras

and much more.

God also smiles (though differently) when we are strenuously after our worldly affairs; when we boast of our scholarship and are proud of our sAdhana; when we procrastinate our spiritual efforts assuming that we would be alive on the morrow.

Since God is nothing but SatChitAnanda, what else he would do except smile at our wisdom and folly?

I think he smiles at all our foolish endeavours

Every action from a child, all be it naughty or clever, brings pride and joy to the parents. So it is no surprise that all our child like innocents endeavours pleases the supreme pita. The Kripalu Bhagvan (merciful lord) is our companion for life, but he/she remains impartial as long as we remain indifferent.

Shree Krishna has said what pleases him the most in Bhagvan Gita and I quote a few verses,

advesta sarva-bhutanam
maitrah karuna eva ca
nirmamo nirahankarah
sama-duhkha-sukhah ksami

santustah satatam yogi
yatatma drdha-niscayah
mayy arpita-mano-buddhir
yo mad-bhaktah sa me priyah

One who does not hate any creature, who is friendly and compassionate, free from (the notion of) "I" and "my", even-minded in pain and pleasure, forgiving; and (12.13)

The yogi who is ever content, who has subdued the mind, whose resolve is firm, whose mind and intellect are engaged in dwelling upon Me; such a devotee is dear to Me. (12.14)

(15-20)

and

The one who shall propagate this supreme secret philosophy (or the transcendental knowledge of the Gita) amongst My devotees, shall be performing the highest devotional service to Me and shall certainly attain (or come to) Me. (18.68)

na ca tasman manusyesu
kascin me priya-krttamah
bhavita na ca me tasmad
anyah priyataro bhuvi

No other person shall do a more pleasing service to Me, and no one on the earth shall be more dear to Me. (18.69)

Jai Shree Krishna

What can be a better smile, with gaping mouth and teeth exposed? I think HE IS SMILING.

I think that God smiles all the time indulgently when we engage in I-Me-Mine and Us and Them. He, though, seems to become happy when the intellect discriminates that I-Me-Mine is a phantom thought.
