Is king Indradyumna, who was cursed to be an elephant, Gajendra, the same Indradyumna who is connected with Jagannatha temple myth in Puri?

Namaste,

I am sure somebody more knowledgeable will answer your question. As a side observation, I am always amazed at how hot tempered/egotistical/selfish various sages were, who would curse good people over some trivial miscues/misunderstandings. There must be some explanation for this odd behavior.

Namaste,

About curses of the rishis and sages. Is it really a curse or a boon. Take for example Maharaja Parikshit who was so called cursed by a brahmin to be bitten by a snake and would die in 7 days setting the scene for avadhuta sukadeva goswami to recite srimad bhagavatm.

Naga or snake is symbolic to use a mundane word that is a pshycic point in the nadis which can open a range or quality of consciousness for the adept yogi to hear the message of the avadhuta for full union and release from maya...

Its a boon not curse ...... same as twin arjuna trees in krsna lila, all end in Dharshan, if thats a curse i will take it gladly. The negativity attached to lila is surely some mistranlsation and misunderstanding.

Curses are exciting - we lost the ability to decode their hidden meaning.

In my opinion they are just a turn of fate - warp (fate) and weft (life) … weaving destiny. The one who curses is the medium to fulfill karma. We do not know what Indradyumna sowed to harvest a life as a king of elephants.

Parashurama cursed Karna to forget the mantra. After leaving Parashurama he killed a cow unknowingly and was cursed by the owner to be killed when his chariot gets stuck in the ground. Both curses were important during the war. Not to forget, that Karna was a demon in previous life.

Urvashi's curse on Arjuna to become an eunuch turned into a boon at Viratas court.

But I want to repeat my question: Are these two Indradyumnas idendical?
