Namaste,
for those astronomy-physical science buffs,

Today (at 18:06 Universal time , 2:06 EDT) the Sun reaches its apex. It's called Solstice, from Sol = sun or Surya + sistit or still, in one place. This one place, stillness happens at the tropic of Cancer, where for the next few days, the sun is at its highest part of the arc, the higestest in the sky.

Now this motion of the sun, if one plotted it daily, would make a figure 8.
At the top of the 8, the sun is the highest it will reach in a year, summer.
The lowest part of the 8, is Dec 22, and considered the first day of winter, residing at the Tropic of Capricorn, then the sun proceeds northward.

The intersecting points, right in the middle is the equinox points found in spring ( first day of spring) and Autumn first day of fall, the balancing point sort of, sama, equal, sameness.

If you take this 8, and lay it down on its side, it is the symbol for infinity, and the motion of the sun between these to tropics go on-and-on.

pranams, happy summer in the north, happy winter in the south.

The fullness of summer is offset by the emptying of winter; all is a balance :)
