Today at 4:46 Universal time ( no daylight savings adjustment),
Sani will enter the rasi of Leo.This is the continuation of our conversation.

Sani -Foundational Information - post 1 (completed)
Special considerations and Sani Transit Evaluation In Leo house by house - post 2
Items of interest - post 3

Leo as a sign
Leo is owned by the sun. It is one of the 3 signs (rasi's) that are of the tejas or fire tattva. So what is the characteristic? A Fire sign is hot, radiant, energetic, sharp clear. This in ayurvedic terms would be pitta constitution. Active, penetrating. At times this tejas quality can cause combustion, conflagration, and destruction.

Recall that when we look at signs or graha's our tendency is to think 'good and bad' yet overall all the components are needs to make the whole work. So, without destruction, there is no creation. Without the 'destruction' of food, digestion in your body, there is no locomotion to move forward, yes?

Hence Leo indicates the stomach ( as we work from the head of Purusha in Aries, the face in Taurus, the Chest in Gemini, the heart in Cancer, now to the stomach in Leo, Virgo owns the hips, Libra the groin area, Scorpio the private parts, Sagittarius the thighs, Capricorn the knees, Aquarius the ankles, And Pisces the feet) Note that Sani owns Capricorn and Aquarius, knees and ankles are pointed out, and we will refer to this later.

The design of how this all works is impeccable and left to the creative intelligence that guides this cosmos.

Sani owns an Air sign and a earth sign i.e. Aquarius and Capricorn, this is air tattva and earth tattva. Sani is known for it's air principle , even as a planet that we visibly see, a Huge planet of gas and rings. An Air planet and air sign is light, subtle, mobile (roaming), expansive like a gas. Add in the quality of earth tattva , heavy, hard, rough, slow, resistant, preserving, stability perhaps to excess and one gets rigidness, but when applied to human nature, a perfect combination for dedication and loyalty e.g. Sani's one pointedness for tapas.

Why mention this? Because in the final analysis it is the Graha's tattva and Karaka , its 'personality profile' if you will that gives you the essence of the compatibility of a graha in a house and sign. Astrology/Jyotish gives a graha personalities that are indicative of their tattvas and karaka's for easier learning and remembering.

Now, before we run though the 12 houses and its influence, this can get a bit complicated. How so? remember Sani influences the house it is passing through (transiting), and it influences the 3rd house from that location, the 7th house from that location, the 10th house from that location. So, you are saying 'yajvan I read that before what is the complication?' . Well recall, Sani is the Karaka of longevity, grief, ailments, hidden things, worry, manner of death, all those things that weigh heavy on us as humans.

These are the items of the 8th house, called Mrityu bhava (house of death , friendly name,eh?). The 8th house 'throttles' the longevity of ones life. A strong 8th house gives a long life, a blemished 8th house, gives angst, and ill health, and curtails life. Now you would think having Sani in one's the eighth house in the birth chart would deem massive catastrophe, yet having this karaka in a dusthana bhava (harmful house) is positive results when it comes to the length of life, but it influences the 2nd, 5th and 10th houses of ones natal chart. What does that mean ? Issues with regard to the 2nd, 5th and 10th houses e.g. knowledge, money matters, children, career, name recognition and impacted.

One that the rishi's call out is the native may eat bad food ( 2nd house affliction). "Bad food' is drugs, excessive intoxicants, let alone other foods not conducive to a healthy life style.

So why bring this up? It is this 8th house count, the Sani as karaka of the 8th ( both +/- features) that comes with Sani as he makes his way around the Bha Chakra (zodiac). So, lets say Sani is transiting the natives 1st house, the Lagna ( ascendant). Sani will be in the 1st house, aspect the 3rd house, aspect the 7th house and the 10th house will 100% strength as a graha dristi ( planet view) to the other houses. YET , being in the 1st house Sani is in the 8th house from the 6th house. The 3rd house is the 8th, from the 8th house. The 7th house is 8th from the 12th house. And the 10th house is 8th from the 3rd house. See how this theme of 8th house influences follows Sani's transits, and why he is of importance in ones natal birth chart ( Janma Kundala)?

So the influence of Sani is with the standard houses originally mentioned: 1st, 3rd, 7th and 10th yes? Now we also look at where Sani is in the 8th from another house, and we get the 6th, the 8th, and 12th. So, overall Sani's reach is 1st, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 8th, 10th and 12th, or 58% of all the houses in Bha Chakra. This applies then to each house , hence when Sani is in the:

1st house, then his influence includes the 1st house, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 8th, 10th and 12th houses
2nd house, then his influence includes the 2nd house, 4th, 7th, 8th, 9th 11th and 1st houses
3rd house, then his influence includes the 3rd house, 5th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 12th and 2nd houses
4th house, then his influence includes the 4th house, 6th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 1st and 3rd houses
5th house, then his influence includes the 5th house, 7th, 10th, 11th 12th, 2nd and 4th houses
6th house, then his influence includes the 6th house, 8th, 11th, 12th, 1st, 3rd and 5th houses
7th house, then his influence includes the 7th house, 9th, 12th, 1st, 2nd, 4th and 6th houses
8th house, then his influence includes the 8th house, 10th, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 7th houses
9th house, then his influence includes the 9th house, 11th, 2nd, 3rd 4th, 6th and 8th houses
10th house, then his influence includes the 10th house,12th, 3rd, 4th 5th, 7th and 9th houses
11th house, then his influence includes the 11th house, 1st, 4th, 5th 6th, 8th and 10th houses
12th house, then his influence includes the 12th house, 2nd, 5th, 6th 7th, 9th and 11th house[ piece of cake, eh?]

12 houses , a snap shot
This brief outline will give you a flavor of Sani's transit if it is moving through the 1st, 2nd … 12th houses . This overview is based upon Sani as a B = Benefic, M= Malefic, driven by the natives Lagna, and this was introduced in post 1. If ones Lagna give the native mixed results then one will experience B+M conditions.

Please review post 1 for reference. I cannot be exhaustive as the amount of information is substantial, so let me try and outline the highlights. Let me advise these views are mitigated and influenced by other conditions - other benefic graha's that are there to help, yogada grahas ( see post on yogada's for more info), the dasa period one is in, Astakavaraga conditions of the house in question ( this will be info in the 3rd post of this subject), yogas, one's Atmakaraka, etc. So there are things that can improve the transit or increase it's severity. As you read, this is a general flavor , and a full chart reading is the only way to advise of the actual conditions that will be bestowed on the native.

1st house B:
Accomplishments with setbacks. One grows in patience, increased confidence and influence amongst people ( I recommend at ones career). Promotion is possible, as is foreign travel. Profit from business if self employed.
1st house M:
Lack of confidence, ill-heath is experienced, obstacles at work or business, increased expenditures, delays in undertakings, if foreign travels, then ones that are not desirable.

2nd house B:
Increased income gain of property, expect larger projects at work, increased organizational skills.
2nd House M:
Financial losses and or limitations imposed. Slow growth if any in investments. Potential loss of position and /or comforts. Potential death to senior relatives. Some worry regarding financial situation.

3rd house B:
Happiness experienced, increased enthusiasm and valor. Self confidence returns, gains of wealth and services. Defeat of enemies ( 3rd house of courage); If there is core interest, mystical and spiritual subject matter will be on the rise. Gaining help from brothers ( 3rd house is younger, 11th house is older).
3rd house M:
Declining happiness, tendency for laziness to increase, issues with brother ( 3rd house younger, 11th house older). Disrespect from all sides, pessimistic.

4th house B:
Gain of property, profits from business, potential for inheriting property due to a death, transfer or promotion, stability in family life.
4th house M:
Potential for separation from family or friends, death of an elderly relative or parent i.e. of death within the family and extended family, ill-health of mother, obstacles in business, transfer to undesirable location, limited to deprived friendships and loss, quarrels within the family or extended family, quarrels over property or property rights.

5th house B:
Success in various exams, tests, or the like; gain of authority, completion of education ( some say this is a 4th house benefit, and 5th house is intelligence), birth of children, gain of property, constructive and profitable work; stabilization of existing relationships even marriage.
5th house M:
Mental agitation, increased debts, unemployment, loss of wealth and increased expenditure, litigation most likely connected to property, failure in exams.

6th house B:
Victory over enemies, progress after struggle with superiors, help from friends, increased work responsibilities, greater efficiency, skills and organizing power.
6th house M:
Occupational hazards, unpleasant working conditions, fatigue or ill-health due to work-effort, unfavorable court decisions, obstacles to promotions, illnesses based upon vata imbalance.

7th house B:
High ambitions, gain of wealth and prosperity, potential for new business venture, increased responsibility though partnerships or marriage, potential for foreign travel; Favorable court decisions that have been lagging ( Sani takes his time), potential for re-marriage from widow. Inheritance most likely property from death of a relative; Heath improvement of wife, son; Helping others with marriage concerns.
7th house M:
Potential loss of family members. Dis-eases of a sexual nature, loss of vitality, loss of business or stock, unemployment or suspension in service. Gathering of enemies, or debt, poor to abysmal public relations.

8th house B or M:
8th house is a challenge - grief, ill health and anxiety. This transit increases the fear of death. Another interesting event is the serious interest in occult, subjects, and / or in scientific subjects.
Some Jyotishi think that the grief incurred with no relief pushes one to look elsewhere, other then physical remedies to mitigate the negative influences experienced.

9th house B:
Gains in finances, fame is indicated ( this can be work related, community, etc) foreign travel, success in worldly matters, higher education, religious tendency or philosophical subjects of interest, development of new ideas in business.
9th house M:
Loss of money, separation from family, deceit from brothers, obstacles in promotion, the potential for criminal prosecution or punishment, the potential for fanatical religious bent ( zealot).

10th house B:
Career benefits, victory in elections, increased prestige and status in the community, favorable decisions in court cases, new acquaintances with elderly people, success in undertakings, a change in service of business.
10 house M:
Obstacles in career, pubic or social embarrassments, difficulties with government, excessive workload, separation with family members.

11th house B:
Sudden gain in money ( 11th is house of gains), gain of servants or services, increased potential for honor and position; transfer to desirable locations after several attempts.
11th house M:
Loss of money and finances, frustrations, death in family, deceptive promises that bring grief and loss.

12 house M or B:
12 house is the house of endings. Demotion in career, heavy expenditures, loss of wealth, family members; Oppression by past enemies, emotional issues, psychological pressures and tension; 12 house is a moksha house and the potential is there for spiritual awakening, meditation, increased studies or new initiative is mysticism.
Same thought as with the 8th house. to motivate one to look elsewhere for relief. Sani does not negotiate and is quiet firm.

What about Sani transiting over a natal graha positions ? Say transiting over the sun or the moon while in Leo? There are specific rules here. Perhaps if there is interest we can Have a post 4 on this. There is some key information as each Graha is a karaka in itself, and Sani transiting over another graha influences that area of life, as it did for me when Sani was in Cancer , its last house. It transited over my natal sun, Venus, mercury and ketu. Many things more positive and some challenging, yet overall favorable.

Some concluding remarks:
In the Ramayana it's said Hanumanji rescued Sani, that from Ravana. In return Sani promised Hanuman that those who prayed to him Hanumanji would be rescued from the painful effects of Saturn.

From the Sri Hanuman Chalisa
Sankat se Hanuman chudavai
Man Karam Vachan dyan jo lavai
Those who remember Sri Hanuman in thought, words and deeds
with sincerity and faith, are rescued from all crises in life.

In Jyotish, Hanumanji is Mars. Mars can assist in ones balancing the effects of Sani.
