Namaste,
Today I heard the following...

the atheist believes _________ ( you can fill in the blank as I thought it was irrelevant)...Is not this an oxymoron?

That is, belief = mental act, condition, or habit of placing trust or confidence in an idea, knowledge, act, or the like.

Is it not still believing in something? And if all things are Siva? then the pasanda or unbeliever is unknowingly believing Pasupadti?

any thoughts on this matter?

pranams,

I would think that whoever said it used a poor choice of words. Oxymoron indeed.

Namaste yajvan,

I find it interesting that there are elements of atheism within Hinduism, such as the Carvaka, Samkhaya, etc..

Rather than using belief, perhaps, we can use school of thought or philosophy.
