Namaste all.

I can recall reading somewhere that when all the devas had gathered together to bless Hanumanji after Indra had struck him with the vajra, Mahakala blessed Hanuman so that time would never affect the appearance of his body and he would be forever youthful. Is this from Valmiki Ramayana or a different version of the tale, and if so which version?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Aum Namah Shivaya.

Namaste.

You can read Hanumān's birth story from Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa here: http://www.valmikiramayan.net/utf8/kish/sarga66/kishkindha_66_frame.htm

The only two boons Hanumān received are from Brahma (no weapon can destroy him) and Indra (chiranjeevi).

"Oh, chivalric warrior at war, while the Air-god is being supplicated, oh, dear boy, Brahma gave you a boon decreeing your 'indestructibility by any missile...' [4-66-27]

"On scrutinising that you are unhurt even after hit by Thunderbolt, oh, ablest Hanuma, the Thousand-eyed Indra kind-heartedly gave you a choicest boon saying that your death occurs only by your own volition... [4-66-28, 29a]

Assuming for a second the above to be true, Hanumān would have recognized he's special (by comparing his ageless body with others around him) so he wouldn't have forgotten his powers in first place i.e., Jāmbavān needn't remind Hanumān of his hidden powers.

Must be from a different version of Rāmāyaṇa but I don't know which one. As per this article there are 300 variants of Rāmāyaṇa: http://publishing.cdlib.org/ucpressebooks/view?docId=ft3j49n8h7;brand=eschol (http://Namaste.You can read Hanumān's birth story from Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa here: http://www.valmikiramayan.net/utf8/kish/sarga66/kishkindha_66_frame.htmThe only two boons Hanumān received are from Brahma (no weapon can destroy him) and Indra (chiranjeevi).
