The branch of Tantra Yoga which focuses on sex is known as NeoTantra due to western interpretations

Namaste,

Perhaps neo-tantra is this, but this constrains, limits and mis-represents tantra.

Tantra तन्त्र , we know this as ritual, scriptures (~agamas); the word is associated with weaving, looming, etc. If we look to tan we see it as to stretch (a cord) , extend or bend (a bow) , spread , spin out , or weave;
tra is a protector or defender.

So we can say tantra are those scriptures¹ and practices ( a weave) that protects and defends the native (sadhu).

While neo-tantra may be in vogue, the intent of tantra is no less then moksha.

1. As see it there are three main schools:
Dvaita - uses the Siva Tantras. There are 10 of these agamas to study. Some calls this view bheda or with difference, or dualism.
Dvaita-Advaita - uses the Rudra Tantras. There are 18 of these agamas for study. Some call this bhedabheda or dualism and monism combined view.
Advaita - uses the Bhairava Tantra and there's 64 of these agamas for ones study. Some call this bheda or without difference - monism.

Can someone tell me specifically how to achieve liberation through sex? Seems like a very fun way!

I don't know how this is achieved, but as Kularnava Tantra says, if merely having sex could lead to liberation then all animals are liberated beings.

There must be more than what meets the eye. One may let one's imagination run a bit on how this is done actually by reading this:- http://www.mahendranath.org/welcome.mhtml and specially this:- http://www.mahendranath.org/magickpath.mhtml

However this is normal tantra from the viewpoint of someone who claims sex can lead to higher state of consciousness.

As far as neo-tantra is concerned not sure if it belongs here or to a pornographic chat room.

It is in vogue to only call the last set of 64 tantras (chatus-sasti) as Tantras. Saiva agamas are popularly called, well, saiva agamas.

As far a philosophy, i think they don't speak of any particular but assume monism. The chatus-sasti tantras expound the chatus-sasti tattvas (which is the more granular division of the 25 tattvas of sankhya darshana). Tantra is thus sankhya in practice and some believe was started by maharshi kapilacharya himself. The set of 64 scriptures vary slightly according to the place one is located in bharata-varsha.

As I have known with some inquiry, philosophically there are primarily 2 groups among practicing tantrik's. One group leans towards the philosophy or kashmir saivism, while the 2nd group looks up to an orthodox vedic philosophy-generally kevala-advaita vedanta.

Moksha is surely the aim of the 2nd group...while philosophically it may be slightly different than moksha (as per advaita) for the 1st group.

Please correct me if my ideas are not correct.
