Namaste,

This week, there occurs a very auspicious day, called Akṣaya Tritiya.

Akṣaya = un-decaying, everlasting; Tritiya is the 3rd tithi of the lunar month - this is owned by Gauri ( Sri Devi, or Parvati).
Akṣaya Tritiya is the day where both Surya (Some call Ravi, Śiva, Rām, etc.) is in its sign of exaltation Aries (Mesha) and so is the moon (Chandra, Gauri, Soma, etc).

This position astrologically is most excellent. Surya will be in Aries bhava in the nakshatra of Bharini; Chandra will be in Taurus and the nakshatra of Rohini.

On this 3rd day of the bright half of the month (shukla or śukla) owned by Gauri, it is considered akṣaya or un-decaying, ever-lasting; But what is? Ones achievements or actions initiated on this day during the right (ripe) muhurta.

This is considered one of the best days of the year. For the sadhu, think of what surya represents. The atman, the SELF or soul, and that of the moon, the mind, soma, the heart. On this day is is quite ripe to start new sadhana.

It is said that the first yajya (some write yajña) was performed on this day… very auspicious for starting new endeavors. It is also said on this day treta yuga began. Treta yuga follows sat yuga, and is the 2nd of 4 yugas¹.

This is also the birth date of Paraśurāma (ax-wielding Rām), the 16th incarnation of Sri Visnu According to the Śrīmad Bhāgavata Mahāpurāṇa¹

When does this akṣaya tritiya begin?
In Varanasi (Vārāṇasī) it begins the 7th of May ( this Wednesday) at 10:08 AM. Note, the tithi of the day (starting at sunrise) is dwutiya ( some write dvitiya) tithi. On the 8th of May at sunrise, tritiya tithi owns the day. Yet this tithi comes to a close at 6:33 AM, Thursday morning, just after sunrise ~ 5:50 AM, Yet tritiya tithi still rules the day.

In the USA
Tritiya tithi begins at 8:37 PM central std. time, Tuesday the 6th of May and and finishes at 5:04 PM, Wednesday, the 7th of May.

May this akṣaya tritiya be uplifting for you, your sadhana, your family, and the family of man.
