what do you think of...

Namaste everyone,

As a "western Hindu" I am interested to find out about peoples attitudes and opinions to a white guy :

a) going to a mandir/temple
b) taking a Hindu/Indian name
c) potentially wishing to have an arranged marriage with a Hindu woman.
d) doing these things at 35 years of age.

I am very interested in everyones views about these regardless of whether you are "western Hindu" or not. :-)

Okay, these are my opinions, as a white Scandinavian guy.



a) going to a mandir/temple

Go there as much as you want. Heck, if hinduism is your religion, then it's not the synagogue you'd be going to, right?


b) taking a Hindu/Indian name

I don't see why you should have to do that. Granted, if that's what you wish then go ahead, but personally I find it just as pointless as when reverts to Islam take an Arab name. In my book, a change of religion shouldn't mean a complete change of identity.


c) potentially wishing to have an arranged marriage with a Hindu woman.

Dude, marry out of love. Seriously.


d) doing these things at 35 years of age.

Apart from c), I don't see the problem.
