Excellent Orlando!

The lord is the most loving among the lovers but at the same time most terrible among the terribles.

However hindu's prefer to keep this aspect of the lord hidden under the carpet and turn pale when faced with himsha.

Love or vegeance are the way the ego (and hence the mind) sees things. Nature loves and also often displays her fury on puny humans ~ actually she just does her job. Lord also does his job and expects us to do the same without passion, predujice and bondage.

True, this side of mleccha God is the most visible.;)

Narasimha also means the king amongst men, or the one with the kingly ego. Narasimha is the one with the kingly ego of "I am God". He also kills the ego of his bhaktas and that was what he did in the case of Hiranyakashipu. Hiranya had become so arrogant that he abolished God worship in his kingdom, and instead ordered them to recite "Om Hiranyaya Namah". Such ego will have to crushed before one could attain God, and this ego is killed by Narasimha. There is no act of cruelty here, but his act of saving his devotee. Hiarnya, though a God hater, never spent a single moment without thinking of God, and naturally deserved such an end. Very lucky guy, I must say.;)
