View Full Version : Question About Brahman

I don't really know what Sanatana Dharma is, but I have a question about Brahman, which I believe is the ultimate God of Hinduism.

If human consciousness is really the consciousness of the Universe, or Brahman, there are few concepts I want to explore, hopefully with someone in the know.

If I understand my real identity, why can't I just stop the game now and return to my original state?

What is the point of achieving enlightenment and jumping through the various hoops that Hinduism prescribes, when Brahman is wanting to play this game of pretending to be humans? Isn't enlightenment spoiling the game?

While each of us is living our lives, is there some kind of central intelligence keeping an eye on things?

If someone committed suicide with the knowledge of Brahman, would that cause any bad effect?

What happens to the individual ego upon dying?

I guess that is enough questions for now.

Namaste Morphane,

you ask some good questions. All require a base line understanding before the conversation can be engaged with meaning.
If you do a search on Brahman within HDF you will find many posts on this matter. The notion is, take a look at what has been discussed already to 'prime the pump' .

Here's a few out of many you may wish to consider:

Namaste Morphane,

Thanks for the nice questions. For all your questions, the real answer, IMO, is that if one knows the real identity of the self, ALL IS KNOWN. Nothing more remains to be known. All these questions will not arise. OTOH, till the real identity remains hidden the questions will not end.

Ritam desires the enlightenment, so that the game may go on joyfully.

While each of us is living our lives, is there some kind of central intelligence keeping an eye on things?

Yes. Brahman is Satyam (the truth, the existence, the intelligence, the bliss) and Ritam (the universal law).

If someone committed suicide with the knowledge of Brahman, would that cause any bad effect?

Brahman is pure knowledge. It cannot commit suicide.

What happens to the individual ego upon dying?

The so-called living and dying is for whom? It is for the individual ego only. But till the samskaras (the mind consisting of memories of deeds, desires etc.) persist, new egos will keep replacing the old ones. Desire, Death, Mind, and Ego are essentially synonymous in Vedanta parlance.
