Namaskar,

Since customs and traditions are being discussed in at least two threads on HDF, I wondered about the types of pujas, mantras, yagya one is encouraged to perform to welcome the new year.

I am of course, talking about the Julian calendar and not the vedic calendar.

I went to the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in Kuala Lumpur for New Year. The pujaris there performed an Agnihotra (fire sacrifice) and they had many plates on the floor, all containing conch shells, and there were also many pots of water which (I think) were used for Abisheka.
