Namaste,

My name is Thecla, and I am a follower of Kali. I have thus far followed Her in a very western, new-age way, and I would like to learn the traditional methods of Her worship. I am also interested in incorporating more of Hindu culture and dharma into my life, and would love to talk to other Westerners who have done this.

Great Mother bless you all,

Thecla

Namaste Thecla,

Its good you want to know about Maa Kali, but I cant write everthing here. But I can tell in brif-

Maa Kali is black version of Parvati Maa Gori.

She (Kali) is strict, harsh and destroyer, but very kind for her devotees

She wear garments made by the body parts of demons or evil people. She drink the blood of demons (evil) as they (evil) did the same thing (all wrong living at the cost of others too is like sucking the blood of others)

She is also known for intelligence, in history it is known that stupids like Kalidas, Tenaliraman etc prayed to Kali for intelligence and become great minds of their time.

I can give you some urls linked to Maa Kali-

Namaskar, Thecla,

Kali worship should not be done by the unitiated. You need to find a guru who will guide you in the worship of Kali Ma. She is very powerful, but a lot of what is written about her is superficial. Her physical appearance and the stories about her ferocity are symbolic of destroying one's own inner enemies.

There is a Kali Temple in Laguna, California, where they have brought priests from the Kali Temple in Dakshineshwar Calcutta (Kolakut) .

Here is the link:

http://www.kalimandir.org/Application/Homepage.aspx

If you contact them, they will advise you how to proceed.

There also a wonderful book "Kali, the Black Goddess of Dakshneshwar" by Elizabeth Harding.Ms Harding is the founder of the mandir in Laguna. You can get the book through them. It is also available at some bookstores, and amazon.com.

I hope this helps.
