Namaste,
I have been thinking about this for a while. I am the fan of several members here and love reading their posts. Is it possible to put a 'face' to these posts?

what do you guys think of sharing a pic of yours with the rest of the members? We can start a thread here and introduce ourselves again.

Thoughts?

Namaste Satay.
Well, some days ago I decided that when I will work and I will gain enough money I wll buy something that makes digital photos and I wll photograph my-self in different manners:for example while I wear a Sri Vaishnava tilaka and while I bow before an image or/and murti of Lord Vishnu.
Maybe in future I will create an italian Sri Vaishnava site and will post my phots there. But first I will post my photos here.
Regards,
Orlando.

Namaste,

There is already the facility for members to add a personal photograph (which can only be seen by other members who are logged in) to their Profile ~ as opposed to an Avatar (which can be seen by anyone). This image, however, cannot be larger than about 100 x 100 pixels.

ah yes, and I have updated my profile. :)

I was thinking more along the lines of bigger pictures...maybe I can increase the size of the profile pic.

Hi Satay:)

The pic with me holding a baby is about 3 years ago, which is a girl, named Shantay, which comes from the name Shakti.

The other pic is Shantay too, taking about but 4 moths ago.

Shantay is 3.

I have another baby named Keonan, a boy, about 6 moths old now.

People just finished a temple in a city about half hour away. I watched a dance (one to Shiva) a couple weeks ago. I want to learn to dance from the teacher, but I don't know if you can ask or have to be asked or have to be Indian. I guess that is a topic for another thread.

namaste MG,
In my opinion, all dance(s) are for shiva only as he is the cosmic dancer also known as natraja. Here in canada, the city that I live in, there was always and still is an entity called 'indian school of dance'. This school has taught dance (southern style - kathak etc.) to many many students including the children of locals i.e. non-indians. Hopefully, in your city eventaully there will be a school such as this.

One thing I would like to suggest to all non-indians is that please do not be shy in asking anything about anything to any indian you see even walking on the street! What's the worst answer you could get,"sorry, I am not indian, I am from xxxx country" :)

But, of course, you cannot walk up and talk to strangers about these things. The internet makes you able to get lots more conversation. I treasure this message board because I am learning so much about Hinduism, searching through the archives too. Good stuff. I guess I am saying thanks Satay for the site and everyone else for contributing.

This and many other forums on the internet are simply amazing in terms of connecting people and sharing information. This type of board brings people together and makes us asks or say things that perhaps otherwise we would not ask or say in real life.

Sometimes I get a note from a member along the same lines as yours i.e. thanking me. This type of note makes me think that the dream of having a place for positive presentation of hinduism was a good one and was worth having. However, I must tell you as I tell other members that thank me for this is that this is not only my dream. I am only a vehicle and I have my own business deals going on with GOD. :)

Bhakta of God: I'm just sort of curious. Don't reply if you don't wish. How does ISKCON fare in Italy, a predominant Catholic country. How do the Catholics react? How large is ISKCON there? If you were raised Catholic, how are the family members adjusting to your new found path? Please don't answer if these questions seem too personal, or if you've dropped your old self. I'm just fascinated more by individual case studies. PM me if you wish. EM

devotee, you might need to resize and compress your pictures before posting; I can help with this or give a full explanation
of how to do this, if this will be of any help?
With that said, it may be that the photos are linked from an other site rather than being uploaded; if you store them on
a site for photos, and then link to them from the thread; that should work just fine.
You can set the size as previously mentioned.

Thanks for your suggestion. However, if I resize and compress the photograph then it would not remain the bigger size I wanted to post !

If you see the pictures posted by Orlando above and by Icy, you can see the difference. Icy's picture is of small size which I too can post. However, Orlando's posted photograph has no such constraint. Moreover, you can't see the picture posted by Icy unless you are logged in but you can very well see picture posted by Orlando even if you are not logged in !

1. go to photobucket or other photo hosting site-

http://photobucket.com/

2. upload your favorite picture there

3. go underneath photo once it has been uploaded and click share. Get direct link for photo.

It should look something like this-

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b294/neolunae/laniehw.jpg

4. Click yellow icon with mountain on it in forum post box.

5. insert direct link to image there.

6. You will then have photo which is good size and will be seen despite being logged off.

First of all, I am really impressed with your presentation and delivery at the Belur Math. Very good! very very impressive! And even more to touch my heart, this must be the same Belur Math of my "second home" away from home, beloved Kolkata! You came to one of my "hunting grounds"! Well, well well, and I hope everything went well.

You never know, one day we my "bump" into each other, perhaps in Kolkata. Or if you ever go to Varanasi, who knows - we may cross paths there. Have you been to Kashi? This is my Holy City beloved, another "hunting ground".

You are a scholar and a gentleman. You are a good soul. I wish you all the best to come. May Mother Annapurna give you food, both physical and spiritual. May Shitala Devi give you Her cooling hand on your forehead to find peace and blessed sleep when sometimes the fevers of life seem to overtake you. May Hanuman give you many languages. May Saraswati open Her book in front of your eyes. May Muruga's Vel come like a sister to you. May Vishveshvara Shiva never forsake you.

May Mother Ganga be your Mother.

May Ganapati have his armies ready when you need many hands.

Namaste ShivaFan!

You are too, too kind. I am humbled and deeply moved by your kind words and blessings. I fervently wish and pray for all of the same for you as well, and I do hope we meet in person one day. I come to Kolkata every year and love nothing more than to visit Belur Math and Dakshineshwar, two places where I feel most at home. I have not yet had the blessing of visiting the sacred city of Kashi, but I hope to have that opportunity one day.

I, too, am a "Shiva fan". I don't think it's visible in the video of my talk, but I always wear a kara on my right wrist which bears the holy mantra Om Namah Shivaya. Whenever I look at it, it reminds me what my life is all about. I was introduced to this powerful mantra through my association with Siddha Yoga. Lord Shiva has been dear to me for many years--a long story which I will share more fully at some point. Without His abundant, benevolent grace I would not have the strength to make it through each day. Satyam, Shivam, Sundaram!

Your prayer has moved me so much that I plan to return to it frequently and re-read it whenever I am feeling the need for spiritual support. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

With pranams and best wishes,
Jeffery Long
