Hi everyone,

I was just thinking about this and if this has already been implemented, I would love to know.

How would you guys respond to a plan of creating a database of Hindu temples and organizations (their sites or just their adresses) around the world categorized by location? It would be of tremendous assistance to people who are new to Hinduism, people who have moved, and people who would just like a new temple to go to. They can simply select their country/state and find temples/organizations to go to. It would be naturally be user-based and user-updated. With Satay the tech guy's (:D) assistance, it would certainly be possible.

Is this just another one of my pipe dreams or can we make it possible?

great idea!! Definitely, it is possible and in fact very easy to implement! But where will the content come from and who will udpate it? those are the two main questions that need to be answered.

Well, perhaps we can do this in a Wikipedia-type way. Each interested person can supply the name/location of the temples nearby their area?

On another thought, why can't we just use this forum? I can create a dedicated forum or thread where members could post information about the temples in their areas...calendar feature of this software could be used to enter events at their temples etc.

Information about temples in US, Canada, India and all over the places could be entered by the members. Search feature of this forum will allow users to search for whatever they are looking for (this already works nicely).

A search for 'Hindu Temples' in google lists up 498,000 links! So, it will be a daunting task to have any satisfactory compilation of info on temples in a database or otherwise.

I think the best way might be to collect just the names of temples and their country (and state) locations and provide links about them on the Internet for further information. If this task is undertaken, here are some of the links that might compile a large number of temples in India and abroad.
