Namaste,

In buddhism there are different realms of existence. For an example one could die and perhaps be reborn into a heavenly realm or a hellrealm, or other realms. And then from there they could die and go to yet another realm. Is this the same in hinduism?

Namaste SS,

I think Hindus also believe in different realms (7 or 8). If you wish you can also have 16 or 32 or more realms. But Upanishadic enquiry reduces all the realms to 1.this one (waking), 2.that one (deep sleep) and the 3.intermediate one (dream). Then Upanishad teaches not to drain out vitality, since all the realms, all the periods, and all that which is beyond all these is Om, which is the Self.

It drains out vitality when mind engages too much with externalities (and thus sleep intervenes and brings the mind to Self).
