Namaste,

I would like to hear your favorite devotional to Lord Siva. Like any particular prayers and mantras? Ofcourse most of us would say OM namah Sivaya, but what about others?

Namaste,

That is a great one.

I like reciting the Maha-Mrityunjaya Mantra
Om Tryambakam yajamahe sugandhim pushtivardhanam, urvarukamiva bandhananmrtyor mukhsiya mamrtat

I bow down to that three-eyed Lord Siva, who is full of sweet fragrance, who nourishes the human beings. May He free me from the bondage of Samsara and death, just as a ripe cucumber fruit is separated from the creeper. May I be fixed in Immortaility!

Namaste,
This is a song composed by Ravana(yes, the same enemy of Sri Rama), one of the greatest devotees of Lord Shiva. the song is called Shiva Tandava Stotra.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwMyiDbQrjY

the complete meaning of the song can be obtained from here.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shiva_Tandava_Stotra
Ravana's ego took over his devotion as the greatest devotee of Lord Shiva and decided to lift the Himalaya(Gowri Shankara) mountain whilst Gowri and Shankara were on top of it. To break Ravana's ego, Lord Shiva pressed his toe from the top where in the whole hand of Ravana got stuck under the mountain.it was then that out of grief and pain that Ravana started composing the Shiva Tandava Stotra, on the completion of which Shiva blessed him.

Namaste,
thanks for the warm welcome, I have been an inactive member from a month, since I wanted to check out how diverse this forum is with respect to covering a major part of the infinite knowledge. This forum indeed covers a good amount of the Sanathana Dharma topics.
Best Regards,

Does anyone know of a easily navigatable website that has Tamil Thevarams on it where it tells which Tamil saint sang it, and a translation into English? I love hearing the Thevarams by good singers at temples.

Thanks, everyone, for sharing their favourites. It gives me a chance to listen to some I haven't heard yet. I personally love Krishna Das's rendition of the Shiva mantra. It's both powerful and peaceful at the same time, like Lord Shiva: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaJPfnCi1t8.

I love any and all things Saivite, from the more complicated Tamil thevarams to just repeating 'Siva' over and over and over. Any version of Namasivaya will also do. So I can't decide on a favorite. The one that sticks in my head is one version I heard in Mauritius a long time ago because the devotees sang it with such amazing gusto, it made me want to cry in joy.

Namaste,

My favourite shiva-stuti (prayer to Lord Shiva) is Shiva Rudrashtakam:

"NamAmi shamishAn nirvAn roopam vibhum vyApkam brhma vedasva roopam ....."

I couldn't locate any video/audio for this. However, the meaning & the full prayer can be had from this link :
