dear all, i need some help here in sanskrit.
in Hariharaashtakam there is a line that goes:
Kalabha Kesari Vaji Vahanam

Vaji Vahanam is translated as having a tiger as one's vehicle.(for Swami Ayyappa)
in the dictionary Vaji always means horse but why is it translated as tiger in this ashtakam.
kindly clear my doubts.

Swami Ayyappa's vehicle (vahanam) is actually horse, a white horse. That's why the line says "Kalabha Kesari Vaji Vahanam". You can confirm this by observing the animal on the top of the flag post in Sabarimala. Every deity's vehicle/animal will be on top of the temple flag post.

Swami Ayyappa is also called as Pulivahanan because he rode on Tiger while returning to pandalam. This was a one time event and this is shown in all of the pictures of Swami Ayyappa. Most of those pictures show Swami with a group of tigers, that when he is returning from the mission.
