Hi, I'm a communist (well, actually, libertarian socialist. Not like anyone would know the difference anyway...) and I came here because I needed help finding something for a Hindu holiday:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dhinga_Gavar
It is a popular belief that any unmarried man if comes near these women and is stricken by the stick gets married soon with a suitable girl. Stick is called baint in hindi so this festival is also known as Baintmar Teej.
The girls and women observing fast of Dhinga Gavar known as Teejania carrying sticks in their hands virtually rules the road on this night.Though enough police is deployed but little intervention is needed and crowed finds its own equilibrium of discipline.Boys to get a "lucky strike" go near girls and sometimes tease them to get beaten up by decorated sticks.
Upon doing a little research, I found that the holiday was in February (I'm not sure where in February, but just for the heck of it, I'll probably end up putting it in place of Valentine's Day, that lousy American holiday, on the 14th).
Now here's my question: Where do I get the sticks?
There's no pictures on google or anything, besides the one on the wikipedia page. I've found some sticks on ebay that look similar and would probably fool most people (here in America, people don't celebrate fun Indian holidays, they only "celebrate" capitalist shopping sprees =/), but I don't think they would work as well :(.
I need to find one by February so I can give it to a girl and have her whack me with it. Not only will I have the power of folklore on my side, I'll have a great conversation starter :). Not to mention that I get to have a girl whack me with a stick :D.
(Note: For the record, I'm not either Hindu or Indian, and I live in America, although I plan on getting the heck out of this terrible country once I get out of college. I'm just a weird guy who likes Indian stuff =/.)
