IMHO,

There is no deity as Vayavye. It is Vayu (Air). However, the form has changed in 4th vibhakti.

This google search shows that the phrase 'vAyuvye namaH'--I bow to the god vAyu--Atmosphere, prANa, is found in the pUjas to many gods. It refers to the Vedic god vAyu. The other adorations refer to the other Vedic gods such as Indra, Agni and so on.

What of this vāyu ? If we look to the ṛg ved ( rig veda) the very first line is a hymn to agni, for many many reasons… Yet what follows? A hymn to vāyu. We also on occasion see vāyu called mātaṛiśvan¹.


This vāyu is of key import to all of life, as it is the lord of life-energies, prāṇa on multiple levels. Saidevo has offered that this vāyu is atmosphere, which is befitting, we can call the mid-region.

The ṛg veda hymn (sūktā) 1.2.1 , the ṛṣi is Madhuchandāḥ Vaisvāmitraḥ-ji , the meter is gayatri, says the following:
O,vāyu, handsome, come. the soma is purified and ready |
drink it , hear our call |

This is an invitation to vāyu. to join the yajña, to participate in the soma, to hear our call . Note in the hymn the word havan¹ is used, meaning 'call' and at the same time it means offering ( a most beautiful choice of words!).

So, hear our call and enjoy our offer is in one word havan. The hymn continues from 1.2.1 to 1.26. As the hymn progresses Indra is also included to come and accept the soma offer with vāyu.
