I would suggest people read these for starters:

And buy a kindle of these books by Rajivji Malhotra - Breaking India, Being Different Indra's Net, and soon, Battle for Sanskrit - from Amazon. Please read all this in order to understand what to trust/not trust as far as works go. I would not read the translations by Westerners if I can avoid it. There are a lot of non-translatables in saṃskṛta, and Rajivji points that out in his book, Being Different.
