The loss of direction and erosion of the value system during the post-Independence period have led to the violent way of social life witnessed in the country, according to Swami Nischalananda Saraswathi, chief of the Puri Govardhana Peetha.

Delivering a speech (Anugraha Bhashanam) on Sunday evening at the Sree Adi Sankara Janmabhoomi temple during his brief visit to Kalady, the birthplace of Adi Shankara, he held that deviation from the Sanathana Dharma was a major reason for the social unrest. The four Sankaracharyas of the four ‘Matts' should sit together and come up with a solution to safeguard the Sanathana Samskrithi, which would also serve as the way forward for the nation. According to him, Adi Sankara was the first person to inculcate the value of national integrity by introducing the concept of united India. He also worked towards implementing a system to carry on with the tradition and culture by establishing the four Maths in Sringeri, Dwaraka, Puri and Badari. Each represented a Veda and through its establishment, he aimed at safeguarding the four Vedas, the environment and all the living things in it.

The Swamiji reached Kalady by 4 p.m. as part of a journey to spread the principle of Dharma and was accorded a grand reception at the Sri Sankara Keerthi Sthampa Mandapam. After visiting the renowned Siva Parvathy temple, he went to the Sree Adi Sankara Janmabhoomi temple where he was received with a Poorna Kumbha. He then visited the nearby temple of Kuladevatha Sree Krishna Swamy.

During the visit, the Swamiji also spent time to meet and bless a large number of devotees who had queued up to have a darshan of him.
