Vannakkam:
From what I could tell by perusing the article and the links was that the so called 'experts' were all Christians, or just wetern scholars. Hmmmm. Strikes me as rather odd. You'd think they could have invited a Hindu to their panel on Hinduism.
This is very typical of the study of Hinduism from the western scholarly community. Its almost like we don't exist any more, and its like the study of Ancient Egypt.
I think I'll send them an email.

Many of the ones that I saw were Hindus...even many of the Westerners:

Vannakkam Bryon: You're right. I took another look, especially at your link. I guess I hadn't browsed it thoroughly enough. Even the respected David Frawley (Vamadeva Shastri) was on there. I guess I'm just a cynical paranoid old man too wary of western scholars. http://www.hindudharmaforums.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
Thanks for pointing it out.

I think Swami TTA rubbed off on you a little :P but yes you are old :)

Hey I have no problem admitting when I'm wrong. In fact, these days I'm getting quite used to it.
And beside all dat, I ain't needin' no respect.

See that Darji and EM go along very well. But Darji is too old (33) to understand that language (?).
What does Darji mean, by the way?

LOL well I'm sure if EM at 56 understands, I at 33 will as well. Ebonics came into our vernacular in my generation (33-43) at 33 I still remember the last vestiges of Jive (ya dig?) from when I was very little (I've been cursed with early memory recall).
As for what I was referring to, is TTA's disdain and outright contempt for "Western Scholars" a point he made in nearly every post :) When EM stated what he did it reminded me of TTA's post. But what do I know I'm nothing more than a dirty avarna meleccha :naughty:

Vannakkam: Now that is funny!http://www.hindudharmaforums.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
Perhaps Darlin' got shortened to Dar, and then with the 33 odd years of wisdom, the ji got added.
What does Atanu mean?

Let us wait for Darji Ji to confirm whether darling ji is full and correct name of his or not... But could he know about the ji part?:dunno:
atanu means one who is devoid of tanu (body). It is name of Shri Krishna or kAma deva; and in Rig Veda Rudra is called both pratanusya and atanusya. But in my context, atanu may mean a ghost.
The dictionary meaning is below.
1(mwd)atanu1 mfn. not thin , not small. 2(mwd)atanu2 %{us} , m= %{an-aGga}N. of Ka1ma. 3(cap)atanua. not small, large.

Vannakkam Atanu:
I always visualised you as a pretty skinny guy. Being a ghost would have its advantages. Not so many barriers.
Seriously, I think ghosts ar very attached souls between lives, and for whatever reason are still stuck to their last lifetime, until they see through it, or enough karma is dissolved top proceed into another human body.

Dear Darji
No significance that is on the negative side but a lot relevant because i found it unique and was not sure of the language. Thank you. It is unique because a meaning of Shiva, if I am not mistaken, is one who sews. Isn't that relevant?
Dear EM
There are bad and good ghosts and i am of the latter kind.

Oh I miss understood your intent, been hectic on another forum with lots of flaming and such, not directed toward me, but reading the drama all day I might have played into what you said a little to much.
As far as I know it's Hindi. When I joined the forum I had no interesting or witty or religiously based names, so resorted to kind of what I do.
As for the reference to Shiva, not heard that, would be an interesting link if true.

@ EM
Especially the Preta, I think they account for many of the ghost sightings.

I am skinny. Though people call me healthy because of lack of a protruding tummy. Although, just 6 years younger to you, i should be weighing just half of what you weigh -- no bets on that. But atanu is not about the body at all. Regarding bhuta and preta, yes, Bhutanath is my Lord.
Very appropriate thread title, it seems. True experts are discussing here matters of grave import.
