From wikipedia about Vishnu Purana

First it is stated

It is said to contain some 23,000 shlokas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shloka), though the actual number of verses contained is less than seven thousand. All the copies, procured both in the east and in the west of India, agree; and there is no appearance of any part being wanting. There is a beginning, a middle, and an end, in both text and comment; and the work as it stands is incontestably entire. This is a discrepancy not easy to account for.

And then

H. H. Wilson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horace_Hayman_Wilson) considers the Vishnu Purana to be one of the oldest of the Puranas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purana), and dates it to the first century BCE,[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vishnu_Purana#cite_note-1) though Gavin Flood dates it later to the fourth century CE.[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vishnu_Purana#cite_note-2). The original version must have written during the later Vedic period (800bce-300bce); but in its present form, it may have been edited or recomposed during the Gupta era (300CE-500CE).

What?...

Well, since the original texts were written entirely by man, anyway, I don't see why it's a problem that future Sages felt the need to edit some things out, possibly to make it a bit clearer.

I have a doubt about a number of puranas. I think that it is very possible, maybe even probable, that some texts have been re-written, changed, manipulated etc. I especially noticed this after reading from the Bhavishya Purana, which is full of BS stories copied from the Bible either to suck up to Abrahamic religious groups or to seem superior. I don't know the reason why people felt the need to make these additions or changes, but it really bothers me.

Puranas are ancient texts, they describe old time events. Yes Puranas are edited, but they are not any kind of copy from any other book, other authors have copied from Hindu texts.
Puranas also give the knowledge of many Ancient Dynasties such as Haryank, Nandas, Mauryas, Shungs, Kanvs, Satvahans, and Guptas etc.

But all Puranas have major difference about history, It looks like bhakts of different devtas rewrote History and Dharmik works togather in Puranas

certainly over time there has been interpolation within the various puranas, and other scriptures as well...sometimes with political motivation.

Namaste Madhuri, Kumar_Das, et al,

This website has information about how Jesus was supposedly predicted in the Bhavishya Purana. It is indeed complete garbage. Christian missionaries tampered with the scripture to convert Hindus to Christianity. They tried to show Hindus how Jesus was predicted in their ancient scriptures and they needed to accept him to go to heaven.

Christians will do anything to convert people.

So will I muahahahahahaha

Seriously, if Hinduism actively sought converts, it would be a majority religion in about two days.

I don't know about that. People flock to religions that incite fear and guilt. Those people wouldn't care so much about religion if they weren't instilled with 'the fear of God'. Hinduism will only work for people who want to love and connect of their own free will.

PS: Yes, I know I'm generalising.
