We have talked about knots at HDF on several occasions¹. Knots are considered granthi (ग्रन्थि) - a knot , tie , knot of a cord , knot tied in the end of a garment for keeping money; it is also the joint of a reed or cane; joint of the body. It is interesting to note that granth is to be crooked.
Many talk about the 3 grantha's in the central channel (suṣumnā) and we can do this if there is interest, yet the ones that seem to be core to many humans are the following:
greed
fear
anger It also can be observed that there are milder cases for each i.e.
for fear one can be anxious at times ;
for anger one can be irriated;
for greed one can be envious of others possessions, status, etc.On the other end of the spectrum there seems to be stonger cases for each. For anger it can be expanded into wrath; for fear one can be in continuous panic ~ 7x24x365 paranoia; and for greed one can expedite their hoarding to a miserly level¹ of instability - never ever having enough.
Yet I look for your opinions and views on this matter... which one is the most devastating to the individual & to society ? That is, if removed (eliminated all together) from society we
would see the marked improvements overall, say in 6 months or a year.
But you say, yajvan I do not see another 'knot' that is very common- that of lust. Yes, let me offer how I think it fits in by first stating my opinion on this overall question.
It is my opinion ( others may vary) that the award for the paragon of grief and crookedness (granth) to man and the family of mankind must be handed to greed. I see this as the root cause for
gluttony - an overindulgence, waste, and a rapacious desire to consume in excess. This gluttony then is the driver of lust. Hence greed brings
the company of gluttony and lust to ones house again and again - 'I must have, I must possess, I do not have enough, what you have I want it more ....'
What are your opinions and POV's on this matter?
