Meister Eckhart is one such fellow who like adi Shankara held only the bare, completely "di-vested" one to be the ultimate reality. Eckhart distinguished between a supra personal deivine the nameless ground (or Not-GOD) and the personal "God" just like acharya's nirguna and saguna brahman.

Let's dedicate this thread to Mr. Eckhart.

“For everything the understanding can grasp, and everything desire demands, is not God. Where understanding and desire have an end, there it is dark, there does God shine. There that power unfolds in the soul which is wider than the wide heavens ... The bliss of the righteous and God's bliss is one bliss; for then are the righteous blissful, when God is blissful.”

Let's dedicate this thread to Mr. Eckhart.

In our time the same Non-dual understanding of Reality is presented by several Western masters, like Douglas Harding: http://www.headless.org/English/main.html
