In this (http://www.hindudevotionalblog.com/2009/01/108-names-of-lord-ganesh-with-meanings.html) version of 108 names of Ganesha

108th name states;
"108) Yogadhipa - The Lord of Meditation"

Yoga Dhipa is more like "Lamp/Light of Yoga". And Yoga is not necessarily Meditation alone...

And if I'm not wrong, Southern Shaivites consider Subrahmanya as Deva of Yoga.

Is Shri Ganesha considered to be particularly the Deva of Meditation or are there other Deities as well? I mean I know anyone of the Deities tend to be meditated upon.

Could this yoga-dīpa perhaps be viewed in the following way:

yoga - the act of yoking , joining , attaching , harnessing ; union
dīpa - a light , lamp , lantern The 'light' that shows the way to 'union' ?

just a thought.

Namaste yajvan,

Makes perfect sense too. I agree with understanding that as well.

Discussing further, so as by that enumeration,

- Lord Ganesha would be the Illuminating Nature of Brahman hence by which we achieve 'union' with Him

or

- "light that shows way to union" i.e union of worshipper(jiva) with Lord Shiva

worshipping Lord Ganesha finally to Lord Shiva

My personal interpretation here is when faced with choosing different Deities to meditate upon as a part of sadhana. Lord Ganesha's Murti is to be chosen over the rest.

because;

for a worshipper He is the 'easiest' of all.

namaste.

The text in question is:
योगाधिपाय नमः

yogAdhipAya namaH

and the meaning is:
yogA--of yogA-sAdhana, adhipA--ruler/king/sovereign
'The Lord of the Yoga'.

As to why we should worship GaneSha before any other god, check KAnchi ParamAchAryAs's teaching here:

Avvaiyaar in her "Vinayagar Ahaval" has clearly mentioned about the Yoga Sastra concepts and KuNdalini Yoga and the centres. Lord Ganesa in whose praise the poem was composed, is clearly the Lord of Yoga! :):):)
