Issues with likhita and matra japa

First, sorry for the misspelling of mantra in the title, just fits in with the post below.

Am having some difficulty lately that I'd like some insight on from forum members if possible. I've recently taken a vrata and have since changed the main mantra that I use for japa. Problem is that new "junk" is coming up which is expected, but some of the old stuff from the previous mantra that I thought I had worked through has returned as well. It's frustrating to say the least - like a double whammy! Does anyone have any clue as to why this may be happening and what to do to return to a manageable state? Your kind replies are appreciated.

Perhaps as to be expected, by the grace of God and Guru, Mantra has proven effective. Instead of decreasing my sadhana, instead I went in the opposite direction a bit and found success. Not initially, but now peace is returning and so is progress. Not that this would work for everyone, but those in similar situations may wish to try this as well.

Any similar encounters from others?
