Does the supermoon that will happen tonight in Eastern U.S. have any astrological significance?

Big moon small moon are the effects of its position/distance to the earth. This occurs quite regularly.

Effects of Apogee and Perigee
The apogee and perigee of the moon have an affect on the tides here on Earth. When the moon is at apogee, the furthest distance from the Earth, it has less gravitational pull which, along with other factors that influence the tides, can contribute to lower tides or lower variation in the high/low tide level. When the moon is at perigee, closer to the Earth, there is much more gravitational pull which contributes to the opposite effect: higher tides or greater variation in the high and low tide.

While one wishes to suggest jyotiṣh is all about gravatational pull, that in fact is not the case. The grāhaka-s¹ are the representatives of tattva-s ( ~elements~), of cycles.
From my POV (what I have been taught) there are 3 approaches to jyotiṣh one might want to consider:

The concept - the pañca mahābhutā
śatapatha brāhmaṇa - what it tells us
All things are connected in this universeThis can be reviewed here on this HDF post, if there is interest :

praṇām

words

grāhaka ग्राहक- one who seizes or takes captive ; from grāha ग्रह- seizing , laying hold of , holding i.e. a grāhaka ~seizes~ or influences the circumstances of the native. This is done via the tattva they manage and control.

I talked to one of the astrologers before the super moon was due to occur and he told me that there will not be any significant development because of super moon.

It seems to be correct

All the best
