Vannakkam: Congratulations to anyone 800 miles east of here in the coldest place on Earth. Hopefully my Oilers will continue to beat them just as before.

(Ice hockey, Canada's game ... for the Indians on here.)

Namasté, EM, and thanks...

I didn't even need to see the newspaper today - just walked down Portage Avenue, and saw/heard the folks wearing Jets jerseys and shrieking "WOOOOO HOOOOO!" at random intervals.

I imagine there will, once again, be a giant gathering of folks at Portage and Main tonight, also shouting "WOOOOO HOOOOO!", with passing vehicles blaring their horns.

I don't follow hockey myself, but I can understand the excitement. I didn't get back to New Orleans until a week after the Saints won the Super Bowl, but even then, there were still horn blasts, yells, and random singing of team songs on the street.

Why can't Canada's national sport be fencing, or better yet, swashbuckling? I'd pay to see teams wielding epées and fighting spectacular duels - bonus points if they did it on an ice rink.

I too hope that the defeats will continue. It...well...it just wouldn't feel like Winnipeg if the city triumphed at something. :P

Vannakkam Indraneela: I quit hockey at age 14. I was going into a corner and some guy nailed me from behind. its a ridiculously dangerous sport, but I do love the enthusiasm of fans of anything anywhere, as long as it's good clean fun, and doesn't turn into wrecking mob. The first Stanley Cup that the Oilers won here finished right during the middle of a puja in a small rented room that used to be our temple. It was one block off the second Main street here, Whyte Ave. I almost had to stop the puja and go see the yelling. Such a tough decision!:)

namaste,
I heard that the name of the new team is not going to be 'jets'. It is going to be something stupid like manitoba falcons or manitoba polar bears. Anyway...Great to have NHL back in da town. :)
and I think the ticket prices are going to be cheap too somewhere from 49 to 150 cdn. WHOOO HOOO!

Vannakkam: It just had to be! I'm happy for you guys. I heard they cancelled Punjabi night in Canada. Sounds like something our Govt. would do.
