Does anyone know about Teej and when it is celebrated? How do I celebrate it? What should I do? As I am very fond of Ma Parvati I would very much like to celebrate it but know very little about it.

Hiii divine kala,

Teej is a festival which is celebrated with immense fervor in my part of country. It is a festival which women celebrate for long life of their husband. Usually there is fasting and pooja on this day. I am not in my hometown right now so can't give you exact date on which it will be celebrated this year. yes roots of this festival lie from times of satyayuga, I will tell the story later. The equivalent of teej in delhi region is called karva chauth, though both don't collide on same day.

The word 'swinging' in the sentence "The Teej festival is a very uplifting occasion, filled with singing, swinging, and dancing." means young girls enjoying themselves on swings; as opposed to the Western definition of 'swinging'. ;)

Vannakkam Believer: Sorry, I can't resist. You mean swinging the baseball bat, or golf club, instead of the cricket bat?

I just don't understand this 'swinging' and I don't understand why are you winking. Surely it isn't swinging one's fists or arms at another person. Yes the west is full of himsa, and the east is ahimsa, but I don't think that's it either. Perhaps you need to go into a more detailed explanation. I am just too confused.:)
