hi

For meditation, I do Omkar Jap. I do it slowly. I stop for about 3 breaths between two chants. Its really has very calming effect. I used to do Gayatri
Jap, but it didn't benefit. But Omkar jap really calms me down. Other than
calming us down, Omkar also has long term health and spiritual benefits.
I am going to freely translate the benefits given in the book I have.

1)You get mental health and mental stability

2)It improves mental concentration

3)Due to the vibrations in the Omkar, our nervous system calms down and becomes more active and energetic.

4)Our speech (Vani) becomes clear. It clears any stammering. So its very beneficial for people who make use of the power of speech. e.g. Singers, Professors, Lawyers etc.

5)Sports activities like running , long jumping , swimming where person has to
use lungs capacity benefit from the practice of Omkar sadhna.

6)It cures asthma and other breathing related disorders.

7)The vibrations of omkar have good affect on every cell in human body.
So all the various systems and glands in human body perform their optimum
function.

8)It helps in high blood pressure and psycho-somatic diseases

9)The physical, psychological and emotional states become balanced.

10)omkar sadhna helps in rejuvenation of body and mind during serious illnesses.

11)Prolong practice of omkar sadhna causes deep and positive changes in
one's personality. It gives experiences of siddhis.

For mental and spiritual benefits one should do omkar in Madhyama Vani.
That is audible enough for you. It should be done on empty stomach
in a calm place. One can also use incense sticks to create right
environment. It should be done after getting fresh.....

Omkar done in Vaikhari Vani (loud enough so that others can hear it) is good
for group omkar sadhna.

In the past I used to do another meditation technique I had learnt from
SSY ,which is Siddha Samadhi Yoga, an organisation run by Rishi Prabhakar.

I will describe it here briefly.

Sit in a comfortable posture and close eyes. Also put your fingers in Gnan Mudra.
Now there are three rules to be followed.

1) Don't create any thoughts - Like we start some train of thoughts
..like thinking about something that happened in office etc. so don't
create any thoughts from your end.

2)Don't stop the thoughts that are coming to your mind.

3)And finally do not hold on to thoughts that are leaving your mind.

and if you become engross in some thoughts or train of thoughts, just mentally
say some short mantra. I say 'OM'. That breaks the chain of thoughts and again thoughts come and go randomly.

This one is awesome meditation technique and I didn't find any information about this on net, so I am posting here.
