Namasté, all,

The India Authentic series was/is an attempt to tell the great stories of our Hindu Devas via modern (Western) comic art. While browsing for something else this evening, I came across a website with the India Authentic comics uploaded for viewing, so I thought to provide the URL in case any of our members are curious.

{They're rather a mixed bag so far, in my opinion; I read up to #8 and found some (Ganesha, Garuda) to be rather nice, some (Kali, Shiva) a bit eyeroll-worthy, and some (Indra, Uma) to be utterly bizarre.}

I own the first two "volumes". The issues were divided, one being The Book Of Shiva which is all based around Shiva--Uma, Ganesh, Shiva, and then the second volume is based more so around Vishnu..but then kind of just veers off and gets kind of random.

Yeah some are a bit "eye roll worthy" but none the less they are great for the artwork alone!

Sometimes I run across unpublished pieces from the series, and I wish they made 'em!

Namasté,

Yes, I had the two "volumes" as well and then passed them onto a friend who wanted to read them.

The artwork is quite lovely indeed, in some issues - Kali, for example, was really fierce! They teach some good lessons, too (one reason why Ganesha and Garuda are favourites of mine in the series). And really, it is good that there are folks doing some interesting modern things with the stories of Sanātana Dharma, even if I don't always like the results.

I would have loved to see them depict the story of King Shibi...

Namasté,

These are scans of a comic book series called India Authentic. The person scanned every page of each comic book, including the advertisements. That's what you saw with "Who is Dan Dare" - an advertisement on page 30 of the Vishnu comic. If you look at the Vishnu pages in order from first to last, you'll see the whole story.
