Jay Maa Durge, DurgatinAshini,

I so want to dedicate this NavrAtri to my darling RAdhikA, hope y'all don't mind - after all, She is ramA (Lakshmi, Shri) , Uma (Gauri, DurgA), and VANI (Saraswati SHAradA). For the Gaudiyas and Nimbarkas She is the fountainhead of Shaktis, AdiShakti, just as a different Devi is the main shakti for each parampara.

First three days of navrAtri are dedicated to DurgA
Next three days _Shri, LAkshmi_
the last three days _Saraswati_

Shri falls in the middle three days and that is when Shri sukta is chanted.

Unfortunately, i use Apple Mac OS and cannot embed a picture from my computer here - so beautiful She is, so have to work with the internet links.

Meri Pyaari RAdhikA , VRndAvaneshwari (http://www.vrindavan-dham.com/download/radha_1.jpg)

Green is for NavrAtri - DurgA mood (http://www.vrindavan-dham.com/download/radha_shyamasundar_1.jpg)

Sweetheart Radhe VRshabhAnavi Kirtidanandini Hari-PriyA (http://www.media.desicolours.com/2009/may/radha-krishna-idol.jpg)

For those interested, they can read RadhaSahasranAm, but it is best kept in the VaishNav forums.

Thanks for listening.

Namaste all,

Maa Durga is worshiped in nine different forms over nine days. What are those ? :

a) Shailputri (daughter of the mountain) :

Daughter of the Himalaya (the mountain). In her previous birth she was born to King Daksha. She was called Sati Bhavaani and was married to Lord Shiva. Dakhsa didn't like the style of living of Lord Shiva (wearing only the skin of tiger, smearing the ash of burning pyre of graveyard on his body, having all ghosts and demons in his company, riding on an Ox, apparently always intoxicated under the influence of Marijuana/Bhaang etc.). He didn't call Lord Shiva when he arranged for a Yajna in his palace. When Maa Bhavaani heard of this news, she was very happy and expressed her desire to go to her parents on this auspicious occasion. Lord Shiva tried to make Maa understand that as they were not invited, it was improper to go there. However, Maa insisted and Lord Shiva allowed her to go but he himself didn't go. When Maa reached her parents house, her father didn't come forward to receive her. Her mother greeted her but appeared anxious. Her sisters avoided her. To her dismay, she found that there was no place reserved for Lord Shiva in the Yajna ! She could not accept such humiliation of her husband who she was so proud of. She plunged into the sacred fire of the Yajna and destroyed the Yajna & herself burnt to death.

b) BrahmachaariNi :

She is also known as Maa Paarvati or Uma who married Lord Shiva in another birth after performing penance. For performing penance she is known as BrhamachaariNi.

c) Chandraghanta :

She is named so because of wearing half circular moon on her forehead.

d) Kushmaandaa :

Fourth form of Durga. She has the power of giving birth to this Universe-egg by merely laughing. She likes offering of Kushmaanda i.e. Pumpkins & therefore named so.

e) Skanda Maataa :

Being mother of Skanda, also known as Kartikeya (which she carries in her lap), she is known as Skanda Maataa.

f) Kaatyaayini :

She was born to Rishi Katyaayan and therefore is called Kaatyaayini.

g) Kaalraatri :

The seventh Durga is Kaalraatri. She is black like the moon-less night and hence called so. Her nose give out thousands of flames of fire, having unlocked hair, her eyes are burning bright and she rides a corpse. She wears this form of death to make her children safe from all evils. Her lower hand is in blessing mood. Being auspicious for her devotees, she is also called "Shubhankaari".

h) Mahaa Gauri :

The eighth form of Durga. She is as white as conch shell and the moon. She is eight years old. Her clothes and ornaments are white. She rides a bull. She is calm, peaceful and in blessing mood. It is said that her body became dirty due to penance she performed and Shiva cleaned her with the waters of Ganga and she became shining white !

i) Siddhidaatri :

Ninth Durga is called Siddhidaatri as she is the giver of all eight Siddhis (special powers). Lord Shiva got all eight siddhis from Maa by worshipping her. This made half body of Lord Shiva as that of the Mother & from thereon, He became Ardhanaarishwara i.e. who is half man and half woman. This form of Durga is most popular.
