Hi,

I have just received a rudraksha japa mala from a friend of mine, from India. It has 33 beads altogether. Is that okay for doing japa mantra of Om Namah Shivaya? This specific japa mala is very special to me, though I have heard of ones with 27/54/108 beads before but not 32+1...

Can I still use it for mantra?

Namaste,

I just read the question only but found no answer concerning the number of beads. So what is this mala I have if it happens to be inappropriate for japa mantra because of the number of beads it has?

It's interesting because this one is my number one mala among the others, and felt a special feeling when I caught sight of and touched it...and I counted the beads later only...
