Annapūrṇāṣṭakam by Adi Shankaracharya

Please visit this youtube video of the Annapurnastakam with English translation, for today I am thinking of Annapurna Devi and listening to this bhajan it brings me back to the time when I was in Varanasi. You know, Annapurna Devi is the Mother of Food, and even Lord Shiva begged food from Her. She holds a spoon in her hand. But there is a very deep, mystic, and purpose in the vision of Devi as this Mother who is the Queen of Kasi but the Devi who proclaims that Her Motherland is the Universe. She holds a garland, a book, a whip and a stick. She is Annapurna, she is the Rani of Kasi. If I can have only one spoon of the porridge from the pot She holds, I will never be hungry again in my soul. She is the wife of Shiva. She feeds all Her children. You are hungry. The real hunger is there and it isn’t the pain of wanting or lacking food – you seek alms, She will feed you. She will feed you not only to stop any actual hunger for nourishment, but to stop the type of hunger that is spiritual hunger. All you need to do is ask. You can ask today.

O Annapūrṇā, Who is always complete, Who is the Dear One of Śaṅkara. Pārvatī give me alms for the purpose of knowledge, renunciation, and attainment of perfection. My mother is Pārvatī, my father is Maheśvara, my friends are the devotees of Śiva, and my Motherland is the universe

Ah...this brings back old memories. I learned this in school. :)

The flowing music, the lyrics, etc. are beautiful.
