I heard somewhere that the Gita should only be read/heard in the mornings; afternoons and especially evening is not appropriate for Gita reading. Is this true?

Namaste,

It is more beneficial if you read Gita in morning. However, you can read it whenever you want, though not advisable at mid night :)

In today's time, you have to be flexible. So it's better to read in evening than not reading Gita.

Similarly, meditation happens better in brahma muhurat (3:30 am - 5:30 am), but this does not mean that you cannot meditate in any other time.

Before sun rise, there are not many thoughts in environment. The atmosphere is at peace, and satva Guna is predominant, so any spiritual activity done in this time will benefit more. But this does not mean that one cannot or is for-bidden to meditate or read Gita at any other time.

Afterall, one has to rise above space and time and know one's true nature.

However, it will be better if you dedicate a time slot daily, say 1 hour or even 30 mins, and then regularly read Gita at same time same place.

Thank you.

I guess that's my problem. Monday to Fridays, I read the Gita in the mornings 7:30-8am or so before my 2 year old wakes up. But Saturday and Sundays I work from 5am to 12noon and my only opportunity is later in the evening and I wasn't sure if that was ok. So far, I have only been reading M-F.

Sorry I did not get email notification, though I have set to automatically subscribe to posts I reply. Hence I could not reply you early.

That is fine. No problem. Just keep reading it.

I used to listen to Gita discourse daily after dinner from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm. In the morning I wake up early around 3:30 - 4:00 and meditate.

I used to listen one track for 3 days i.e. if track no 20 for 3 days, then track 21 for next 3 days.

Same can be done for reading.

If you an manage, you can repeat same part in the evening. Reading 3 times is important, as you cannot grasp everything in one shot.

After completing all tracks 3 times, I used to repeat it for another 3 times. I listened to 50 tracks many times.

You can also read it from M-F in the morning and then on sat-sun in the evening. No problem.

on a second note, can you read Gita on weekends before going to sleep.

Can you extend it daily. i.e. read Gita after waking in the morning and repeat same part in the night just before you go to sleep.

i hope junior @lonelyheart will not disturb you in the night :)
