It would be much nice, if we could subscribe a particular category
e.g. feedback, advaita, New to Sanatana Dharma.

Not all members check all categories and sections. e.g. I have not read upnishads and so I will not look into them.

The index shows latest posts from all sub categories.

So if I am subscribed to a category say, Bhagavad Gita, then I will get Email notification the next day as a digest, in which any new or updated thread will be mentioned.

This facility is available in v4 of vBulletin

It's there in a [Guide] Getting started with BikAdvice Community Forums (http://bikeadvice.org/announcements/1846-%5Bguide%5D-getting-started-bikadvice-community-forums.html)

If you want to upgrade but are falling short of funds, you can check out IP board or a FOSS alternative like myBB (getting popular). vBulletin is getting costlier.

myBB extensive admin panel and lots of plugins, all offered FREE of cost.

Some use SMF, Simple Machine Forums.

namaste IS,

That would be a nice feature to have but I am not prepared to upgrade the forum to V4. V4 has a lot of security hacks and makes quite an easy target for hackers to attack the forum and gain admin privileges. I have thought of upgrading for a couple of years now ever since V4 came out but I just can't put the forum in hackers test lab knowing all the security issues.
