The 9 Jhanas

Experience is key to the perfection of religion, however strong a scholar maybe if he has no practice and that practice does not lead to experience then what is the use, the knowledge just stays on the level of Intellect.

Here is a nice page that partially describe the 9 stages of Jhana or meditative abortions as practiced with the Buddhist schools. The word Jhana derives from the Sanskrit word Dhyāna

I like the format in Buddhism because they lay the path out step by step and give descriptions about the experience. I was wondering if there is something similiar that describes anything similar in any vedic or yogic texts.
